I was hoping the '07 GOTW program would float one but no dice. Personally I like the design more than the V and Explorer but all three look great.

Hi everybody, I'm new here. I was told about this forum by a person named Bobb over on the Guitars Canada forum. I'm glad to see others would like to see the Moderne back in production as well. I tried an Epiphone Moderne out way back in 1983 at a Long & McQuade (Canadian Music chain) and I was kind of on the fence at the time deciding on whether I should buy it or not. Well, unfortunately I decided not to buy it and it's something that's been bothering me ever since. I've seen Gibson and Epiphone Modernes available from time to time on EBay but IMO the prices people want for them are just a little too high. I'd definitely be interested in one IF they'll be available at a *reasonable* price and when I say reasonable I'm talking about somewhere around the $2,000.00 range for a Gibson and in the $1,000.00 range for an Epiphone. If you folks at Gibson could bring these back, I (and I'm sure many other guitarists) would be very happy.

Kenmac, nice to see you over here.

When the reissues came out in 83, I never had a chance to see the Epiphone version but I was lucky enough to try the Gibsons. One of the local stores had the full set(Moderne, Explorer, Flying V) with the guitars priced at $800 each. As much as I liked all three guitars, I balked at the price tag. Been kicking myself ever since. :(

I'm sorry but those look horrific. Just the headstocks alone make me cringe. It was a good decision of Gibson to stop making those but i guess we all have different tastes.

Thanks Bobb. At that time I believe (and I'm sure somebody will correct me if I get this wrong) that the Epiphone Modernes were, on average, about $200.00 cheaper than the Gibsons. Regarding the kicking yourself part, I can definitely relate. :(

M Kvasic: If you don't want one, don't denigrate those of us who do.

I would like to see one available again, but to differentiate it from the "classic" version, perhaps with an Explorer-type headstock? It would be easier to produce by using a current NC pattern.....

its a suggestion board, and I'm just giving my suggestion...to keep it out of production.

On a side note, didn't a past Gibson Guitar of the Month have a moderne headstock on a flying v i think? The reverse v had the one on the left and the other guitar of the month had the headstock on the right, the one that looks like a fist.

I wanted Gibson to re-release a Moderne until I found one of the first 80's era Modernes. Now I am somewhat ambivelent from a collectors point of view. I have one serioulsy rare insturment, and a further re-release would water that down some.

Maybe a re-release with the Split V headstock? (in cherry please). assuming pricing was in line with other recent limited releases I'd absolutely buy one.

What I'm still waiting on is a Reverse Moderne. Seriously. I need to complete that set.

perhaps I should have prefaced this with a statement about how much I love odd-ball instruments, Gibsons in particular.

I have a Flying V, an Explorer, a Moderne, a Reverse V and a Reverse Explorer...so...yeah I'm that guy.

I think there was a GOTM LP with that Moderne-style headstock.....

is this what you are thinking of?

also pretty neat, but not a moderne headstock. the only other instrument that I am aware of that had a quasi moderne style headstock was the Limited Ed Reverse Explorer.

I like the look of the Moderne, but I have never had an opportunity to play one. If I was in the market, I would definitely consider it, after giving it a good workout of course. Oh, I also prefer the club headstock over the "Live Long and Prosper" headstock.

I've never been a personal fan of the Moderne, but when you ask the question, "which model should the bring back?", the Moderne is always mentioned. It is certainly a very neat guitar and definitely a fan favorite that a lot of folks would love to see.

I was very let down when they didn't do it for GOTM.

Deserving of a bump.

Pelham would look fantastic as would a GT version.

If we're voting for headstocks, I would prefer the Flying-V "bullet" style, for better string tension control.

Why? I'd actually like to play a Moderne if I can buy a re-re-release. Natural or silverburst.
