Good stuff, Flick. Thanks for posting this. It's something else to see the human side of things

Thanks very much for the Kalamazoo Gazette shorts. THe old factory background is very pleasant to catch up on.
Please post more (links, too) if there are any around.

Seeking owner(s) of Natural Bird's Eye Maple Les Paul. I wish to use a photo for non-commercial purposes on my webpage background. Please PM me if you own such an axe.

Thanks for vids Flick!
There are still previous employees living in Kalamazoo. I've had the privilege of talking to a few of them.
If anyone wants to know about what it was like to work at Gibson in the classic years, I highly suggest you read the book:
"Gibson Guitars: Ted McCarty's Golden Era: 1948-1966" by Gil Hembre.
And if you can find it: "The Gibson Story" by Julius Bellson.

Silly as this sounds... I guess I'm at the point where I'm proud I remember being brought up and living in a pre-OSHA age myself.
Another thing I noticed... a feeling from the old timers, that if work needed to get done, you did it. Reminded me of supposedly being a newspaper wire editor and if the teletype went down ... well, somebody hadda fix it and on a Sunday, I may as well do it myself.
Another one... cruddy amp sounds. Eight-inch radio speakers overdriven. <grin> The kinda music my Dad said the "hillbillies" sang in WWII Army camps... He never entirely understood, I don't think, why I liked frailing Jesse James on a banjo or flatpicking it on a flattop.
