I’m sure you guys have this already on the board but it would be nice to see a big deal about the SG’s, ’61 LP’s, 50th anniversay.

Longwinded personal SG love story:
For me the SG was what opened the doors to Gibson. I was a Fender guy, mainly because of my perception of the Gibson price tag and a few other generalizations. The love of my life was a big fan of Gibson’s and SG’s in particular. She gave me a gift card to a music store for and she wanted to help pick out my next guitar. We came across a used SG faded. The price was right, I loved the look and the feel. So it was my first Gibson and it truly changed my musical and guitar direction. Within a couple years all I had were Gibsons and Epiphones. Some financial hard times came so I slimed down to one LP since in my head it was the icon of many of my musical influences but I have since longed for another SG. The weight, the access, the body size and the tone just call to me but the color choices that I can afford on a working man’s salary leave a bit to be desired.

It would be cool to see a guitar of the month with the whole year dedicated to SG’s. I would love to see the ‘61s in all the classic colors: Pelham Blue, TV yellow, goldtop, Polaris white, cardinal red, frost blue, Inverness green and so on but make them affordable runs for the everyday player not just collector pieces. I’m sure that a collector piece in gold would work out great too with a collectors price tag and limited availability. But 500 of each month would bolster interest and still be cool in its limited availability.

It would also be nice to see the entire line of SG’s reinvigorated. For a year bring back the SG juniors with the low price points maybe even the SG shaped melody maker. Get some more colors into the SG classic line and the special line also (Pelham, tv yellow). Offer standards with Bigsby’s or maestros and some more colors. Bring back the Diablo but with some pickup upgrades, Kahlers or Floyds and cool custom colors. Same with the customs but maybe with 3 P90s. I know all this costs more in production but for one year celebrate the SG and bring all the cool options back to the table.

I guess in short I would like to see Gibson go all out for the SG, ’61 Les Paul, anniversary and offer some great guitars with new “old” options that the everyday player can afford and get a hold of.

Hi. I am Gary Feder, the General Manager for the Gibson USA division. Thanks for the input and your ideas - great stuff. Yes, we are planning to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the SG with several special models throughout the year. I think you are going to really like what we have planned. Details to follow as we get closer to launching each product.

Thanks for posting Gary.

I think the new SG Models next year will be really good, especially judging by the 50th anniversary Les Pauls
I am mainly an SG player myself, but only own an Epiphone G-400 currently. Over the next year I am looking to purchase a Gibson of some kind, likely to be a Custom Shop model. I am currently tore between a Les Paul Axcess or the SG Standard VOS. They are both very nice guitars.

I think the idea of producing guitars of the Korina bodys is a very good one and I hope the production of these models continues for a long time.

Could you give us any sneaky hints of maybe some new Inspired By guitars? ;)

I think the 50th anniversary SG should either be an exact spec for spec copy of the 1961 Les Paul SG or a reissue model of the 1964 SG Standard. I chose 64' because that was the first year that the SG was called the SG. Seeing as how before that they called it the Les Paul.

Favorite SG Artists?
For sheer longevity and licks, Angus Young steals the trophy for me. And Gibson has already recognized that.
However, several of my idols, Clapton and Zappa included, have used SGs at one time or another in their careers.<br><br>I further beg his pardon: Derek Trucks<br>

Pelham Blue is the most beautiful of all guitar colours, even including the Fender rainbow. Would love to see a PB SG with a trapeze, dots, and a bound neck.

Favourite SG player is Jeff Tweedy.

My current SG is a faded yellow finish that I picked up for about $600. The finish kind of looks like it was sprayed on by my 16 y.o with a can of Krylon. Since its all about tone and feel for me, the finish isn't real important. If the Anniversary model is as killer tone and feel-wise and has something very distinctive about its appearance, I'll consider adding it to my stable. I'm looking forward to what comes out next year.

I'm excited to see what you guys have planned. But please, for me ;) , release some cool colors at an affordable price. I plan to reaquire an SG next year and would love some cool options.

I would love to get sick of the SG next year. Every model available, every color, every option. That would be a party deserving.
