BFG Gary Moore with a buzz

Since day 1 of purchase, my BFG has "buzzed" when plugged into an amp.

I've tried it with different cords, tons of different amps. It doesn't go away unless I put my fingers on any one of the strings.

Needless to say this is rather annoying (especially considering the price I paid.. My 250 franc Coxx copy of an SG doesn't buzz..)

Is there any way to get this fixed? In theory it's still under warrantee, but is something like this covered under warrantee ?

All guitars buzz when you're not touching the strings (except for some equipped with active electronics) – some more, some less.

The shielding of the pickups and all ground/earth points in the guitar's signal path are wired to the ground wire, which is usually connected to the guitar's bridge in Les Paul model guitars.

If your buzzing is extreme, you should have a qualified repairman check the ground connections in your guitar. If it's still under warranty your dealer should take care of.

I might add that if you sing and play at the same time, until you get this checked out, be careful letting your lips come in contact with the wind screen on the microphone. If you have a funky ground, you might accidentally shock yourself...spoken from experience.

Found this bit o' information from one guy online a while back, and it worked for my BFG too...

Pull your bridge off and lightly file the bottom some at the contact points between the bridge and the mounts so they have good ground connectivity. I did it with the stopbar as well, just in case. Something to do with the chemicals they use to give the hardware the "worn" look, I understand. Worked for me, hope it does for you as well.

Thanks everyone...

I can't sing, so I'm not too worried about electrocuting myseld ;)

Will take a look at gently removing some of the coating on the bridge... Thanks for the tip!

It has a P-90, right? Hum is always associated with a single coil unless it's specially designed not to like the H-90.

It's only gonna buzz if the front pick up is engaged. The rear pick up is a humbucker...so if the guitar "buzzes" with only the rear pick up in the circuit, then it's not the P90.

Yes, the P90 has a little hum to it, but not what is the prob with the "buzz" on BFGs. The buzz is associated with a grounding problem and the killswitch on the BFGs. When the killswitch is engaged (guitar signal turned off), there is a loud buzz. There is no buzz present when the signal is engaged, or if killed with the killswitch, the player touches the strings. Turns out, at least in my case, it was a grounding problem from the bridge to the mounts.

Sounds about what's going on with my BFG, "grounding" the strings make the buzz go away. I will have to try the kill switch theory, haven't done that yet.

It's not a "humm" noise, more a nastier sounding "buzz".

Thanks Mr. Schulteis.
