Today (Friday 13th August) marks the first anniversary since the passing of the great Les Paul, he was 94. As you all know, Les was a remarkable innovator and musician, his legacy and supreme achievements will live on for generations to come.
Below is a small selection of tributes paid by Artists following the news of Les's passing last August..
“The world has lost a truly innovative and exceptional human being today. I cannot imagine life without Les Paul. He would walk into a room and put a smile on anyone’s face. His musical charm was extraordinary and his techniques unmatched anywhere in the world,” said Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar. “We will dedicate ourselves to preserving Les’ legacy to insure that it lives on forever. He touched so many lives throughout his remarkable life and his influence extends around the globe and across every boundary. I have lost a dear, personal friend and mentor, a man who has changed so many of our lives for the better.” -(13th August 2009)
"Les Paul was a shining example of how full one's life can be, he was so vibrant & full of positive energy. I'm honored & humbled to have known & played with him over the years, he was an exceptionally brilliant man." - Slash (13th August 2009)
"The music industry has lost a giant! I'm very saddened by the news of Les Paul's passing. I was lucky enough to have known Les as a friend, and admired him as a musician and innovator. He forever changed the way we listen to music." Ace Frehley (13th August 2009)
"Les lived a very long life and he got to a lot of his goals, so I'm happy for him in that respect. ... At least he realized that he was a legend in his own time while he was alive". "He was revolutionary in the music business." - Richie Sambora (13th August 2009)
Please see this forum topic as an opportunity for you to pay your respects. What Les meant to you, if you were lucky enough to meet him, watched him perform at the Iridium Club in New York or you own a Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul guitar.

Getting to the Iridium to see him live (and perhaps sign a pickguard or something) was long on my bucket list. Regrettably, I never made that trip.
