Too bad the guy can't play. <chortle>

Seriously, I seldom am jealous of the talent and skills of others. This is an example to the contrary.

Milod, thanks for the beautiful video of Joe Pass. Now please cut off my fingers.

Pass' technique is incredible regardless of what he's playing. And frankly, I've a hunch he could make a Walmart $35 acoustic sound better than I could get out of an L5 or 175. @#%@#%@#

<grin>

More than that, that guy reeeeally knew his music. What more to say...

I like rock, metal and shredding as much as the next guy, but you've got to admit that there is a world of talent out there and that you don't have to be a ROCK GOD in order to show that you know your stuff. It's obvious that this guy has probably forgotten more about playing a guitar than most of us will ever know. Personally, I'd never heard of him previously, so thank you for sharing his talent.

Trek...

He was dead before I started to appreciate his stuff myself. I really hate to admit that, but I was listening more to Kessel and Ellis and that bunch/style.

Let's assume you (not you personally, but any guitar player in any style) don't even care for Pass' jazz guitar style and tunes. Fine. But there's something else.

In your Google search, just ask for "Youtube Joe Pass" and then listen to some of the interviews or watch some of the little instruction bits.

You're right, that guy knows more about guitar playing than I ever could have learned even if I started as a full time guitar student at 18.

I think there's a lot to learn from Pass if you're already playing rock, country, folk, Bluegrass or jazz. He simply ... understood ... chords and the neck as well as anyone - and just one or two of those interview-lessons can be a huge eye-opener. I'm not sure a beginner without lots of prior music background would get nearly as much out of it as someone who already plays.

As a person he had his problems. You'll see vids of him playing various guitars. There's even a vid of him on a Fender Jag. I tend to believe the assertion that mostly he performed with an ES175. The Epi Joe Pass is apparently a pretty nice piece with a neck that kinda helps play his sorta stuff.
