Is there a place you can get a good deal on one of these guitars? M/F has them listed for $3675.00
Has anyone here tried one and can recommend or not?
I live many miles from any guitar shop that sells Gibsons.
Any reasonable input is appreciated.

finally the Hum/P90 pickup configuration is one that makse sense to me. I am surprised it has been only recently that we've started to see instruments rolled out in this config.
3600 is a lot of scratch though

Jeff with 1 F: Thanks for the reply. I'm officially on the lookout for one of these, to add to the family. Sounds like I can rely on the recent models for reliability, and that some of the earlier models had some mechanical tuning issues.
Thanks again,
Steve

I would never buy a 2010 Limited, unless you were assured of ever getting a RIP for it.
Otherwise it is completely useless.
***Come on Gibson get with it ! As all DarkFire batteries will be starting to die !***
***What hope is there for the FireBird X if this is how you treat previous owners of this modern technology of guitars***
***NOT HAPPY***

What does RIP stand for?

The Robot Interface Pack (RIP) can send all available Dark Fire etc signals (magnetic pickups, piezo pickup, and hex pickup) into a computer for recording or live use.
RIP is compatible with virtually all current Mac and Windows computers, as well as many older models.
You need this for 'Echo Firewire Console' thats part of RIP &
You need this to use 'Gibson Chameleon Editor' in here you can save & store settings then send them to your guitar to be saved in their.
My DarkFire is now running on DuskTiger Firmware which is exactly the same firmware for 2010 Limited.
You need the RIP if you what connection for Hex capabilities.
I run mine though a Roland VG-99 & can drive my Access Virus TI Synth with my guitar......Called 'Guitar-to Midi'
You can download the manuals for RIP & the DuskTiger, manual is the same as for 2100 Limited.
Have a look at what came with the DarkFire or Dusktiger.......Compared to the 2010 limited, you have to buy RIP separately.
This RIP is still NOT AVAILABLE....
In my eyes it's just like buying a Ferrari without an engine......Good Luck !

Holy shite
I had no idea these guitars were so technologically complicated. I would be very upset if I were in your shoes. I can't believe that Gibson won't or can't provide you with the RIP. Thanks for your information

Just confused as to gibson selling this 2010 limited without a RIP
If I did own a 2010 limited I could use DF's RIP, Just have to turn of battery re-charge in their,
as that affects something in 2010 limited.
But why would I even won't 2 guitars that do the same thing !!
My main concern is the simple fact you can't seem to buy any spare parts for any of DF, DT or 2010 limited, from Gibson
This is becoming a very serious fact, as the batteries for these will be starting to die.
Tronical don't supply spare parts, it's all in Gibson's hand.
Enough said !!

Maybe someone with a real entrepreneurial spirit will produce an aftermarket unit (I'm thinking one of the boutique pedal manufacturers) on a "you-order-it and I'll build it" basis. If Gibson is unable or unwilling to support their own hardware, someone else will step up to the plate. Have you tried googling to see if such an aftermarket replacement already exists? Just a thought.

Hi,I own a the Metallic Red 1st Gen Robot. I would gladly buy another for stage, If they could tune in 2-3 secs instead of 12 secs. As to why have 2, because having a back up is REQUIRED for live performance. I'd rather rather carry 2 than 6 for multiple tunings. Not to worry, I have a good feeling about 2012 being the year everything happens.. The Mayans said its a new beginning, that's got to be good right?, Planet X will bring us good luck by lowering our real estate taxes, and the sun flares will cook and clean everything for free. Oh and the Robot Generation 2 Update will be shipping Dec 21, 2012 ,,, Just in time for Christmas. But some people call me a optimist.

Klaushouz: Assuming you return to this posting: Tell us about your Robot, if you can.
Similar to other Les Paul's? Does it retune, or go out of tune regularly? How does it sound compared to other Gibsons, and what kind of music do you play. And, for sure, why another Generation? Something needs to be improved, simplified, different pickups???
Tell us more, although I know your colour is great.
Thanks in Advance,

Hi, Sorry for the delay, I have been very busy programming my new toy, a Fractal Axe-Fx Ultra to go with the robot LP. Answers to Questions: 1. Yes it tunes in 10-18 secs IF, the strings are in good shape, and the post nut is tight. I have to tune every 2-3 songs NOT because of the guitar going out of tune, but because my band plays songs in 4 different tunings. My solo material requires 5 different tunings and is traditional music (much less distortion/no drop tunings) than my bands music, hence the need for this tech. As long as the tuning your switching to is CLOSE to the next tuning your going to, tuning happens fairly quickly, if your tuning UP in pitch. 2. I sold a 1970 Gold top to get this guitar. The robot's fretboard plays better. The PU's are good for 60s,70s,80s, and 90s music, no problem, 3. But New music, (IE drop tunings) = MUDDY. Burstbucker 3s would be better. My band plays original metal ala Black Sabbath/911 truth music My link, so I drop the tuning with a (Morpheus pedal- 2 steps) and tune the robot to D flat to get to B. We plan the set so that we start low and tune our way up. The robot works best (quickest) this way. I should add quicker than the other guitarist who ALSO has a LP but different PU's, I tune with one hand and drink water, he needs 2 hands and more time. SOOOO The new models IMPROVEMENTS ARE: 1. Can do true drop tunings down to B with better PU's, that means no pedals needed to achieve the sound = LESS MUD. 2. Tuning in 3-5 secs instead of 12-20 secs to radical tuning. 3. The 2010 model can do 18 tunings, mine only 6. As I play in 2 custom slide tunings and 4 different regular tunings I would love the chance to explore new territory . 4. Mine will not do piezo acoustic sounds the 2010 model will so I could use it instead of bringing a acoustic to my solo gigs. And last 5. The Chameleon tone module makes the LP a Strat or Tele. That means the 2010 model would be a DEFINITE improvement to my first GEN robot for me personally.
