I checked out the 60s Les Paul tribute and it was a very impressive guitar for the money. I loved the 60s neck and I dug the P90s. I thought the guitar really sang. The interesting part was that the guitar seemed very light compared to other Les Pauls made of the same material. I am not sure why this is the case, but I tried a few of them and they were all the same.

I didn't see the case that comes with this, but I am under the impression that it is a gig bag. I am not a fan of this because this is a 850 dollar guitar which is pretty pricey and I think in that range that should get you a hard shell case. Maybe Gibson should consider a minimal fee up charge for the hardshell. Like pay 30 bucks more and get the hardhsell instead of the gig bag. Honestly this is a great guitar and I know that these are considered "limited" but Gibson should and needs to come up with a way to make this type of guitar at all times. A Les Paul with a Maple top, mahogany back and rosewood fretboard is the ingredients for the Les Paul sound we all know. Obviously some people may be fans of the P90 and some may hate them, but they are great pickups in my opinion. I hope that Gibson figures out a way to make this model a permanent model in their lineup.

I would have bought the guitar but they didn't have the Gold top version in stock and I want to see that one. My last comment would be I do wish the finish was glossy, but if that really costs Gibson that much more, then leave it out if it would bring the guitar up in price a few hundred more dollars. This guitar is a great competitor to the American Strat. similar price range especially when add the hardhsell case in the cost, and this gives the buyer the option of choosing two great American standards for the same price; A Strat or a Les Paul made the way it should be made. Nothing against the Les Paul Studio, but the price on those are still too high and they don't have that maple top.

I love this guitar and I hope I will be getting one soon!

I agree, its a excellent guitar. But the Studio does have a carved maple top, at least my 2009 does.

The only LP Studios that don't have a maple top is the VM model(Faded Cherry and Brown) as far as I know.

Really? I posted a picture of my Studio on here, and everyone said it was Maple. On the Studio fact page it also states as a maple top. I have the Wine red studio.

The true studio has all the same woods as the Standard, but without the pearl or binding.

You mean the other variations of the Studio? The original "Studio" should have maple a Maple top through all the color choices. I know some other variations of the Studio line do not, though.

I would buy one of these IF--they came with a hardshell case - (I don't do set necks and gig bags--sorry) and if they bound the fretboard--If they made a GT with a bound fretboard and sold it with a hard case and only charged a reasonable ammount more for it-I would buy one--They are nice--

Buy what? A 60's Studio, or a original Studio?

I was VERY happy to see the left-handed Gibson Les Paul Studio 60s Tribute guitar in worn goldtop at the last NAMM show. I ordered one from my dealer the following week. I could not put the guitar down in the Gibson room. While I'm not a fan of chambered, or weight-relieved bodies on Les Paul guitars, I fell in love with the playability (Plek'ing), P90s and price point. Also, I've been looking for guitars I could use for playing out, versus taking my left-handed, '99 Les Paul Classic goldtop out which is my baby. I was looking at Heritage, ESP, ESP/LTD, Collings, PRS, Tom Anderson, etc.... for a single cut guitar. However, Gibson was the only guitar company to make this left handed player happy at this last NAMM show. It was also very cool to see the left-handed Gibson SG Special 60 Tributes in worn natural, worn cherry and worn black. I will buy the worn cherry model as well.

Henry & Gibson,

You should make this guitar right AND left-handed all the time. Does it cost more to make it from a solid mahogany body? Also, wasn't it the late Les Paul's intent for the Les Paul guitar to have a solid, dense piece of material? I understand how some people don't like the heavy weight of the solid, mahogany body. However, to me, when the guitar is in playing position, the solid mahogany body Les Paul guitar does NOT feel heavy at all. As a left-handed player, I would love to see this guitar with the solid body and with 490R/498T or 496R/500T pickups.

A 60's tribute Les Paul--I wish they had fret board binding and a case upgrade option--I do not like any set neck guitar in a bag---

I like the P-90's

On the 'case' issue, it's a rip off for the manufacturer's and for the shops/stores that sell the guitars. I live in Glasgow and a typical les paul standard costs £1800 GBP plus. That's a good bit more expensive than in the U.S. I'll bet that if any Gibson or Fender(because they're at it too)REP or MANAGER bought a new guitar they would want a case 'free'. On Ebay Gibson 'brown' cases are selling for £180, no way are they worth that money. Now I'll tell you about the bargain I got, advertised in a local paper, a 1999 Gibson Les Paul Standard, one owner, never gigged, never been taken out of the home, hardly played, sat on a stand, no dings, blemishes, marks fret wear, as new, Nashville serial number, beautiful cherry sunburst plaintop rather like a '58'. WITH THE 'AS NEW' BUT ORIGINAL BROWN CASE, £700 GBP.

That's what I said. Only the VM Studios have a carved Mahogany top and it's my understanding the 2011 VM's now have a maple top. I have 2 Studio VM's and they both have carved Mahogany tops on them. As far as I know all other Studio models always had a maple top.

Its been, by far, one of my favorite guitars. Love the P-90 model Goldtop. Great tone, nice feel, and looks killer. For the price, its hands down one of the best deals. Only reason I don't own one is I want the 50's model. I prefer a thicker neck. Not sure why Gibson isn't bringing those back out... Heck, I'd say scrap the current Studio line and just turn the Tribute series into the new Studio series.
